You know what....I did get paid for that job!. Sorry I actually forgot about it but I was paid for it. It was just a real pain in the butt so that is what I rememberd!. I'm gonna ask that Karl remove my original post if he can. They did complain that the stuff was in the wrong place but I did get paid so now I feel like a horses ass!. By the way Karl I received the book today from Amazon. I'll come back here and post my thoughts.

The whole story I posted is true but I forgot the one thing was that I got paid for it. So I really don't want this posted online anymore because it justs makes me look bad. Truely I did forget that I got paid for it!.

Karl, maybe I'm losing my mind but I can't find any post you made yesterday. As of me writing this, your post above this one is the newest(until I submit this of course). If I look at the "Freshness" of the posts I won't find anything posted yesterday 2/18/2010. The newest before yours and mine have a "Freshness" of "1 week ago.".

EDIT: Nevermind, this geek is losing it!. Found your post Karl!

I'm gonna go ahead an order this from Amazon now. Theres another book I want anyway and if I combine it with yours I can get the free super saver shiping.

Thanks Norbert!. At least I learned something from the experience. I'm not sure Karl reads these forums much. Doesn't seem like there is much activity here, wish I could here or read more stories!.

Karl,

This one needs to go in Volume II. Tragic abuse of a Geek. That would be like bitching out a fireman for coming in and "unburning" you house and not putting the stuff back "exactly" like it was before they dropped the frozen turkey into the vat of boiling oil!

Kins, you are a good Geek. Don't let these losers get you down.

I didn't know whether I should have started a new thread on this or not. I heard you say you would give away a free book to random posters on this board. Really would like a copy of this book!. I myself have done a lot of free computer work for people. Lately it seems more and more expected of me to fix friends computers for free. Recently I fixed a computer for a friends mom. They restored their Dell with a restore disk and wondered why they couldn't get on the internet. They told me they "had a virus and got rid of it and the virus erased their pictures and documents". I don't think they even knew what they had done with the restore disk or even what it does. Anyway I spent about 6 hours straight looking through over 50,000 pictures and restoring them. Also spent about 4 hours going through old documents they wanted restored. Also cleaned the dust out of the machine, flashed bios, installed all drivers. Really have no idea if they restored the pc themselves or had dell help them or someone elese help them. I don't know how they could have used the restored disk and not realized what it actually does?.....

What did I get out of it?. I did get a thank you from the persons daughter, but I also heard that from her that they just complained because the pictures and documents weren't in EXACTLY the same place. I put the pictures in My Pictures in a folder called recoverd pictures and the documents in My Documents in a folder called recoverd documents.

At least I learned how tedious recovery can be and maybe I'll think twice about doing any type of recovery for free again.

Excuse me for any spelling errors I may have made in my story, just telling it really quick.....

Would be great if I could get a copy of that book.

I found myself laughing out loud and saying, "Yeah, yeah! I had the same experience!", while reading this nice little e-book (also available in paperback) by Karl Susman. I could relate to just about everything he wrote.

Now I am not much of a reader, sad but true. But despite that I had to get this book, "Love Your Geek". Why? Well, I'm a geek that's why, so this book had me at the title.

Now if you are a Geek that intentionally or unintentionally helps anyone for any reason with anything tech, that's tech related, or even nontechnical, you will love this. The stories were humorous and all to familiar, bringing back memories of similar tales in my own life.

If you are not a Geek, but have one in your life, then this is a MUST read. This book is a light-hearted look what happens on the other side of the tech "problem", whatever it might be, that you throw at your Geek. "Hey Bob, why doesn't my mouse work?", "How come I can't print?", "Why is the Internet not working?" Yeah, these are all covered and a lot more. If nothing else, you will figure out the most common problems and solutions that your Geek faces everyday and how to solve them yourself.

Do yourself a favor, and your Geek as well. Buy the book and enjoy it. It's a great little read.

Because Karl is a truly nice guy, he gets to help EVERYone with their little geeky problems. In the book, he tells us some humorous man vs. machine tales. which really look more like Man vs Himself when Karl gets done.
You will laugh, see yourself, and enjoy the stories -
BUT
You will also get some valuable information from these classic little tales about some simple things you can do to fix some of our your most common problems!
Easy to read, fun to learn.

I love the holidays - there are always plenty of party invites, and it seems like every time I show up for the festivities, I get hustled off and introduced to some offening technology, usually a pc that the family teenager has opened up to all manner of viruses.

Even better are the "hey, could you swing by" requests, which inevitably turn out to be requests to setup some new tech for the friend or family member, usually as close to the holiday as possible.

My policy for the past two years has been "no tools are touched at parties" but I have broken that rule numerous times, notably when one hosts' dining room light switch arced out while we were sitting there.

It just wouldn't be neighborly to let his house burn down...
